Q21: Last week, a new member in our client team fancied interviewing some of the key members on the project, naturally I was called in as well (no surprise, is there?); he started asking some of the very basic questions (no pressure guys!) and threw in this one:

D; As separator pressure increases, more lighter component that otherwise would have flashed into gas stream will remain dissolved in liquid from the separator.

Q22. You have two sticks and matchbox. Each stick takes exactly an hour to burn from one end to the other. The sticks are not identical and do not burn at a constant rate. As a result, two equal lengths of the stick would not necessarily burn in the same amount of time.  How would you measure exactly 45 minutes by burning these sticks?

If you light the stick from both sides, it will take exactly half the original time, i.e. 30 minutes to burn completely.

At 0 minutes –  Light Stick 1 on both sides and Stick 2 on one side.
After 30 minutes –  Stick 1 will be burnt out. The remaining length of the Stick 2 will be burnt in next 30 minutes as it takes 1 hour to completely burn for each stick and since we have measured 30 minutes using Stick , if we light the other end of Stick 2 too, it will be completely burnt in 15 minutes and so at – .
45 minutes – Stick 2 will also be burnt out.
